The Surfrider Foundation Presents “Pint Night” @ The Pyramid Brewery
Posted by wpevoseattle on
March 17, 2010

Join us March 24, 2010, 6-8pm to enjoy some local brews and support clean water! $1 from every pint purchased at Pyramid is going to the Blue Water Task Force who are a group of volunteers (I’m one of them!) who go out an test water in some of the most heavily recreated areas around Seattle. They are literally making sure we are not swimming in nasty water that has overflowed from treatment plants. Unfortunately it happens more than you would care to know. This is not just to protect surfable beaches, we test at Magnusson, Golden Gardens, and Discovery Park just to name a few sites.

Emails From the Road

March 5, 2010

KC Deane is up in BC flying in a bird for the first time. Here is an email he sent me this morning describing his experience.
Man yesterday was so amazing. Heli skiing is so awesome. The avi danger was super bad but other than that it was sick. Just being in the heli alone was freaking awesome, and the last run of the day, we skied the sickest lines. Just searched around in the heli till we saw something we like and found these long spine lines with some mandatory airs out the end. Epic snow, Ill have to tell you more when i get back. Ill be back on sunday so Ill cruise down some time later on Sunday.
Later KC
We are all living vicariously through you. Have fun be safe. See ya Sunday.

Hurricane Ridge RE-OPENS, head up this weekend for $20!!!!
Posted by wpevoseattle on
March 5, 2010

The Olympics come alive again with the reopening of Hurricane Ridge, nestled in the Olympic National Park. The ski area is fully operational again after a devastating slide destroyed the access road. Locals say they their own version of “Olympic Spirit” helped get the area back up and running. Come experience Hurricane Ridge for just $20 and spend a day or weekend on Washington’s majestic Olympic Penninsula.

They are more than 100-percent of their average snowpack for the year. That’s because they are along the same track as Mt. Baker. Storms come in from the Pacific and nail the Olympics before the Cascades. The Strait of Juan deFuca is the only path for big storms to strike directly at the Cascades – which basically equals Mt. Baker. Hurricane Ridge takes from that same pathway.
Aside from tons of snow, they have incredible views – Pacific Ocean to the straits, Vancouver Island, Mt. Baker, Cascades and sometimes Mt. Rainier. You can also drive to a few hundred feet short of the summit, making backcountry access that much better. The Mervin Manuf. guys ride HR on the weekends and Baker during the week. It’s pretty cool.
