SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN, BLACKCOMB, WENT OFF THIS WEEKEND!!
Blackcomb, April 4th, 2010 – The 13th Annual Showcase Showdown got crazy in the Nintendo Highest Level Terrain Park this Saturday. For the first time in its 13-year history, the all-day event took place in the park rather than the base area. It featured a combo of big air and a blast from the Showdown’s past; wall-ride with re-entry feature. The event was a BLAST and definitely one to make it out to next year!
Molly and I arrived in Whistler Friday night. We met up with Priscilla Levac (owner of Cilla, first layers for women) and Natasha Zurek for sushi and wine at SushiVillage (my favorite food on earth). Great food and conversation left us sitting in our booth for hours. We chatted about everything from Priscilla’s company, Cilla, to Molly’s new puppy, Penny!
Arising early on Saturday morning, we packed up and headed to registration. Waffle sticks and check-in took up the first hour at Showcase Snowboard Shop – good call Showcase! As we headed up the Blackcomb Gondola, the mountain was stormy and visibility was nil. We were in the fog as we headed up the last chair to the park; the good news, there was POW all over the mountain. As we cut over to the HL Park, we boosted into a window of sunshine. Brad Broughton, Showcase Team Manager, and the Whistler Blackcomb Terrain Park Team, and Groomers shaped the booter and features all morning. The course looked clean, BIG, and fun AFTER the hard work of shoveling POW was finished!

The course consisted of an initial jump, not judged, the first jump (choice of 45ft popper or 65ft floater) to wall-ride re-entry. One practice run because of a late start and the contest was underway. I took the 45ft popper, with most the other ladies, in my practice run; it was wacky and difficult to clear. I took the 65-footer my first judged run; the jump was built well and very smooth. Speed was slow for the re-entry. Of course, I fell on the first jump (that is not judged) my second judged run ruining speed – Oh, I love contests. Needless to say, I didn’t make it to finals with a fall in each of my runs. It was a good time and a blast to finally hit a well-built BOOTER. BBQ was blazing, chili was bubbling, and tunes were blasting at the bottom of the park. Showcase definitely brought the “party to the park” as they planned.

Molly and I took off to shred the POW, soak in the sunshine, and well… experience a blizzard at the top of Seventh Heaven. We took killer tree runs with POW up to our knees at times. Two ladies free for an afternoon; couldn’t have been better. As we headed down the gondola, we debriefed on how nuts the day was. Sun, fog, pow, groomed park, huge booter, blizzard, Stevens Pass yesterday, and Blackcomb/Whistler today. I felt exhausted and confused as to what had just happened over the past 24 hours of my life. Rad.

CHECK OUT SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN NEXT YEAR! Whistler has some B.A. riders and an epic park!
THANK YOU TO THE SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN SPONSORS!!!!

evo intern and rockstar Kerry is in a heated battle to sell the most Kona Longboard Lager at her “real job” at Joeys Restaurant! Winner of this contest will win a trip to Kona’s homeland, Hawaii!! If you’re in the South Center, Tukwilla area, hit up Joeys and ask for Kerry! You’ve gotta order the Molten Chocolate Lava Souffle, OMG….*mouth is watering!* I just went down there the other day to see what i was missing out on since i hadn’t been to Joeys before and had some fish tacos, some gyoza, and they were even running around with some samples of some of their more popular dishes… i will definitely be back, who wants to go?? Lets go get some Konas so Kerry doesn’t have to drink them all herself!

evo Interns Enter Spacecraft

evo interns take a look inside Spacecraft!!

Two days ago, I was writing descriptions about a shirt that was a thumbnail image in a catalog. Yesterday, I was in a large warehouse where the intricate design on said shirt was painted on a 3’x4’ box, leaning against a concrete wall covered in painted art and framed photography. Yesterday, I was in the Spacecraft world.
The four mighty evo web content interns together with their fearless leaders and the graphic designers stormed the Spacecraft offices to look behind the scenes of the company whose snow cat stickers line the streets of Seattle (and the lift poles of Stevens and the Summit), and we definitely weren’t disappointed.

evo Team Rider Randa Shahin || Roadtrip with Megan Ginter to Tahoe
Posted by wpevoseattle on
April 1, 2010
Megan Ginter and I have been talking about taking a road trip together for a long time. Fortunately the cards all played out well and we were able to jump in the car together and start making our way down to Lake Tahoe, Ca. We chose to take the scenic route, through the cascades of Oregon, past Bend and Klamath Falls. The view on the way down was beautiful. We took advantage of a few places to stop and take a break while taking in the breath taking views.
