“The visual annunciation of ideas represents the most ubiquitous form of communication. We are confronted with over 100,000 images a day containing information. This kind of saturation has created a visually astute culture; capable of “seeing” complete ideas at a glance.
My work is a distillation of meaning. Confronted with the irreconcilability of life its divine implications and its violence; I work to build a bridge constructed from archetypal iconography clad in a pop sensibility. I enjoy creating these narrative structures with multiple levels of meaning. Each image is a vignette from a larger unfolding story; I work to capture the concise moment of transition in these stories capable of translating insight and change into this space. The floating world show attempts to use these modalities of communication to leverage awareness and change in to this space… “

Event Recap: Absinthe’s NowHere Premier 9/9/10
Posted by morbore on
September 16, 2010

Hailing from the Egyptian Theater came one of the premier snowboard videos of the season. It came out of NOWHERE….or NOW/HERE, which is actually the film title. Set out on a mission to stoke out all us pow-hounds, park rats and jib junkies, they accomplished it in front of a packed house. The line that stretched 2 or 3 blocks consisted of not just pros… but joes, skiers, boarders, young and old…we all got our fix and our pre-season fever was cured for a little bit longer.

The film was hard-charging right from the start. Lucas Debari started the film with some Mt Baker influenced cliff drops, park-inspiried backcountry riding, and pillow lines to make us all jealous. Wolle Nyvelt is one of my personal favorite riders and he must have glue on his feet. You have to see his Noboarding abilities to believe them. Its no paste either, I’m talking the stickiest of super glues. Taking down lines sketchy enough even with bindings, he charges hard!

Annie Boulanger drops king-sized cliffs, while Marie France Roy sends it with a style any girl would love to match. They sure hold their own against the rest of the boys. MFR had a rough year with her back injury they show her crash in the film. Blair Habenicht also had a huge part with a ton of backcountry charging, and one CRAZY tight-rope chopper landing that made everyone want to scream! Blair continues to keep holding it down in the NW. Jake Blauvelt is a tiger, and tore open his transition from filming with Forum last year to Absinthe this year. Cale Zima brought some creative urban intensity that every film needs nowadays.
Coming off his Transworld Rider of the Year nomination last year, Bode Merrill had one of the highlight parts of the film. I could name-off the tricks for you, but you will probably be seeing them in magazines shortly. Because if you see them in action, you might end up needing a diaper. Holding the banger section down was undoubtedly left for Dan Brisse. He capped off the ender of an already-amazing film with insane gaps off roofs and and massively long rails, he takes his riding, and snowboarding in general, to a whole new level of intensity that has yet to be matched.
It is a film that I will be adding to my collection for sure and I highly recommend you do the same. Stoke is on high my friends after this one…yes stoke is on high.
