Burton Malavita EST® and Malavita Re:Flex Bindings
Love to man-handle the mountain the right way? Then you probably already know and love the Burton Malavita EST® Bindings. If not, listen up! Back for another round the 2013 Malavita Bindings are the holiest of holy with the best technology, comfort and feel possible. Dual-Component EST® technology is the first wow factor of the Malavita: by removing the baseplate from beneath the feet and replacing it with the AutoCant SensoryBED™ Cushioning System, EST® offers ultimate flex and feel and endless stance adjustability. If you haven’t ridden with EST® yet, then you’ve hardly experienced snowboarding. Another killer feature of the Malavita EST® Bindings is the Heel Hammock that cradles your boot and magically offers amazing response in turns. Wait, there’s more; The Hinge technology moves and flexes dynamically with your leg so you can more or less crack a proper ollie.
And for those of you who aren’t ready for the awesomeness of the Malavita EST® Bindings, Burton has provided a nice little backup in the form of the Malavita Re:Flex™ Bindings. Built with Re:Flex™ technology, the baseplates of the Malavita Re:Flex feature a Single-Component 30% Short Glass/Nylon composite baseplate with Re:Flex AutoCANT FullBED Cushioning System with B3 Gel. That may sound like a mouthful of tech but this minimized, cored baseplate effectively reduces the binding weight and increases board flex underfoot for more direct board control, natural stance positions, and less fatigue.
Regardless of which Malavita you call yours, EST® or Re:Flex™, Burton has you covered in its attempt to get the very best out of all your gear and really feel the board beneath you. Even the most hardcore of men have feelings.
Meet the elusive Carly Crabb. Rarely seen in front of the lens, she helps out to keep our photography looking sharp. She also rules our photo and copy interns with an iron fist…requiring constant coffee and gummy bear delivery for her. The most common question she is asked starts with “Hey Carly, can you shoot (fill in the blank).” Or “Hey Carly, can you film (fill in the blank).” Carly is also the only person in the world that is ok with flying from Denver to Seattle via Dallas.
frequency The Snowboarder’s Journal wants you to submit your own story about your favorite local snowboard shop, in 500 words or less. (we hope it is evo). The winner will be published in the February issue of frequency and you could win a Burton snowboard!

He’s a photographer, he models (for real), and he’s a Photoshop wizard. He loves fresh spring water, and wearing beanies year round. He’s soft spoken and outgoing all at the same time. He loves skateboarding, rollercoasters, Beaverton Sub Station (seriously, he goes to Oregon for sandwiches, but I have driven to Whistler for a Splitz Burger, so guess we are even), and if you don’t hear him laugh at least a quarter of the day, something is wrong. He’s Ian and this is the stuff he really likes.
Oh… and he likes red, white, and blue… can you tell?
We’re back this season with all new staff picks for 2012 and this week’s picks come from Maggie in our Product Information department. If there’s anyone at evo who knows about product, it’s Maggie. She writes copy for evo and makes sure every item on the website has a product description. You want the specs? She’s got ‘em. Color options? She knows ‘em. So if there’s one staff pick to pay attention to, it’s probably this one.
