Oakley x Gore-Tex Great Ascent Jacket and Pants 2013
With all the hype of the Sethmo collection last year and the addition of Gore-Tex to their technical outerwear line Jake Blauvelt’s signature pieces quietly flew under the radar. Jake and Oakley return for 12/13 with some brighter colors sure to get some recognition and everything else you have come to expect from a technical 3 Layer piece in his Great Ascent jacket and pants. The two pieces are made with Gore-Tex’s Performance laminate to help keep you dry while keeping the cost reasonable and also adding durability to the garments. Unlike Seth’s minimalist pieces you will find Oakley’s Loose Fit for increased mobility, a goggle pocket and my favorite feature, critically placed fleece to keep you warmer while riding everything from the freezing East Coast where Jake grew up to wet Northwest he now calls home. Look for Jake in his web series Naturally on http://jakeblauvelt.com/
Check out some other 2013 Oakley Jackets and Oakley Pants: Tanner Hall Pro Rider Series, Jake Blauvelt Gore-Tex, Seth Morrison Sethmo Kits:
For 2012/13 Oakley introduces another goggle once again, the Canopy, and yes as the name suggests it’s pretty damn big. It seems like every goggle company has pushed to create larger models these past few years. But Oakley is a leader and didn’t just jump on the band wagon by throwing some patented HDO into their largest lens to date, stick an oversized goggle frame around it and call it good. They spent a lot of time doing R&D and used it as a blank slate to make their best goggle to date. They stiffened nose brim to reduce pressure on your nose, making it more comfortable. The Canopy features a lower profile top allowing it to fit extremely well with almost every helmet on the market. Larger lens means even more peripheral vision and airflow to prevent fogging.
The Canopy will hit your wallet somewhere between $130 & $200. It will make its debut with 8 colors, 4 of which come with 2 lenses, hence the $200 price tag. Look for a big push from Oakley athletes to be wearing these along with two signature colors; Tanner Hall’s Rasta Mane and Danny Kass’ Peace Pipe. I suspect the two signature models and the solids will be our top selling colors.
Other Oakley goggle news: Seth gets 2 signature colorways in the Airbrake in addition to his Crowbar, new colors for Simon and Eero and JP Auclair. Terje moves over to the Airbrake. Kazu, Lindsey Vonn both have new signature models and Shaun White has just about as many signature colors and models as he does X Game medals.
Also be on the lookout for some fresh looking colors from the Factory Pilot Series which has added Airbrake to list of recipients receiving the limited edition retro text. The Night Rider and Venom colorways will be found at select dealers and featured in only the Pro Frame, Splice and Airbrake styles.
Meet the elusive Carly Crabb. Rarely seen in front of the lens, she helps out to keep our photography looking sharp. She also rules our photo and copy interns with an iron fist…requiring constant coffee and gummy bear delivery for her. The most common question she is asked starts with “Hey Carly, can you shoot (fill in the blank).” Or “Hey Carly, can you film (fill in the blank).” Carly is also the only person in the world that is ok with flying from Denver to Seattle via Dallas.
Congratulations to Jesse McCoy on winning ourevo trip to spend 5 days in Japan at the Morino Lodge. This place gets tons of snow, great powder, huge backcountry opportunities + access to hot springs. Jesse and Sean are also getting decked out in gear from Contour, Under Armour,Bern, Oakley, DaKine, Salomon.

Friday, October 22, 2010 – evo was jammed pack with a house of over 200 attendees for our 1st Annual Winter Fashion show event that was hosted at our Flagship Store in Seattle, Washington. People literally came from all over the country to celebrate the coming winter season with us… we opened our doors to representatives from the companies showcased on the runway, local media, customers, friends, family and more.
We even had an extra special guest appearance from Olympic Athlete Kelly Clark and Olympic Teammate Gretchen Bleiler. Gretchen was kind enough to take the mic to introduce her Oakley line and to share some insights on outerwear manufacturing.
Energy was brought to you by our friends at Monster Energy Drink, and wheels for our parking shuttle provided by MINI Of Seattle.
In addition to fashion, the evening was all about giving back to the playgrounds that we live and breath. There was a silent auction featuring Ski Packages to Whistler Blackcomb, Stevens Pass, Crystal Mountain and Mt. Bachelor. Each was accompanied by outerwear, Skullcandy Headphones, Dakine swag and more goodies from our sponsors. 4 Lucky bidders walked away stoked, thats for sure!
In addition to the silent auction, PaperMarbles was on site painting one of his latest creations which was auctioned off throughout the night with proceeds also going to Protect Our Winters.
Mmmmmm, and how can we forget the photobooth!? Check out the photobooth snaps here!!!
Overall we’d call the event a success. There were copious amounts of food, drinks provided by Pyramid Brewery and House Wine, desserts by Theo Chocolates and good times brought to you by your friends at evo. Thanks again to everyone who came out to support POW and to stoke us on for the season!!!!
