Tim McChesney Goes All Euro with Faction Skis
TIM MCCHESNEY’S EURO TRIP WITH FACTION SKIS
By evo team rider Tim McChesney: At the beginning of this winter, Faction Skis approached me about doing a handrail trip to somewhere in Europe that no one had really been before to film for their webisode series.
After doing some research we decided on the Czech Republic and Poland. I had never even considered these locations and was very excited to visit these countries. Unfortunately when we arrived in Prague there was very little snow to work with. We spent a day or two checking out the city and waiting for the whole crew to assemble. We rented a van and “The Boss” of the trip, Etienne Merel, skier Tom Granier, photographer Erik Seo, writer Mike Rogge, filmer Blake Kimmel and I all packed in and hit the road.
We headed to Poland in search of more snow. Our first stop was the city of Krakow. We had talked to some locals and they gave us the address to a nice quad kink that they had set up. Although there was only a couple of inches of snow we had a good session and walked away with a couple shots.
After scoping around Krakow we decided to keep heading north in search of more snow. Five hours later we arrived in Warsaw, Poland. This city was completely destroyed during World War II, so it was full of newer buildings (by European standards) and we quickly found some spots to hit. Luckily, Warsaw had about 8-10 inches of snow so the following day we shot some rails in a park and had the most successful day of the trip. That night we decided to check out the city with a pub-crawl that our hostel offered. We all had a great time celebrating the successful day of shooting.
The next day we had to start making our way back to Prague to get ready for the second part of the trip. The crew split up and Seo headed back to the States. The rest of us headed to Verbier, Switzerland to ski some pow. After struggling for a week in the streets to find snow we were all very excited to go ski in the mountains.
Our first day in Switzerland we meet up with the Faction Skis crew based out of Verbier and went up and skied the resort. The Alps are a crazy mountain range and so different from anything we have here in America so it was an awesome day checking out the terrain.
That night it started snowing and didn’t let up until morning. We awoke to a bluebird sky and lots of fresh snow. We decided to try a smaller resort called Les Marecottes to avoid the crowds. This was one of the most fun resorts I have ever skied and the snow was amazing throughout most of the day. It has only one lift but countless lines to ski along with all sorts of other terrain. We skied fresh snow throughout the entire day and the whole crew got some shots for the upcoming Faction webisode.
All in all both parts of the trip were awesome, each in their own ways. Skiing handrails throughout Poland is something I never thought I would have a chance to do and skiing powder in the Swiss Alps is every skier’s dream. A big thanks to everyone at Faction Skis for making this trip possible.
