Skate Like a Girl’s Wheels of Fortune at ATS
The Seattle nonprofit Skate Like a Girl is partnering with the Women’s Skateboarding Alliance (WSA) and ESPN to create the first global female skateboarding qualifying contest for Summer X Games. The Wheels of Fortune annual contest will take place on May 8th at All Together Skatepark. As a prequalifying event, the top two finishers from the Wheels of Fortune Advanced Division will be selected as “Wild Card” athletes to officially compete in Women’s Skateboard Street X Games Austin, in early June 2016.
Seven years ago, we started Wheels of Fortune to create a platform for women to gain recognition in the sport of skateboarding. We are honored that our event is now a benchmark on a path to a professional skateboarding career for female skateboarders internationally. This will be another revolutionary year for women’s action sports.
– Kristin Ebeling, Skate Like a Girl Director
WSA has officially sanctioned the contest for over 100 female athletes in five unique divisions: 12 and under co-ed youth, beginner women, intermediate women, golden girls (30+), and advanced women. The event will feature professional athletes Vanessa Torres, Samarria Brevard, Lacey Baker and Julz Lynn. This all-ages, free event will take place at All Together Skate Park and stream live in evo from 2pm – 7pm.
