evo Denver Grand Opening Recap
Five days of celebration, 500 party people, 700 cans of beer, and over $6,000 in funds raised for SOS Outreach. That’s how we made our Denver debut to launch our third retail store and welcome the Colorado community into our new space. The energy was electric and we are proud to call Denver our new home. We humbly recognize that none of this would have been possible without the help of our partners and customers! Whether you were there in person or in spirit, here’s a recap of how it all went down.
Cash register round-ups benefiting SOS Outreach
We kicked off the week by accepting round-up donations for SOS as customers checked out at the cash register. We’ve received well over 100 donations of various sizes, and evo will be matching all funds from this week! We will continue to accept these donations through the end of the year, so if you come by to purchase something at the store, please consider making a small donation!
CAIC Know Before You Go Avalanche Awareness Class
Brought to you by Strafe Outerwear
Backcountry education is near and dear to our hearts. Each of our stores offer free avalanche awareness classes through the winter season, and Denver is no different. Tuesday night was our kickoff to the series. We had set up 40 chairs, expecting what would be a normal attendance in Seattle or Portland. Nearly 80 people ended up filling every possible nook and cranny to learn about preparedness, snow conditions, and the essential gear required for backcountry travel. At the end of the season, one lucky attendee will win a trip for two to Strafe’s headquarters in Aspen for a touring experience. If you missed out, be sure to join us for one of our next classes!
Inaugural Gallery Opening: Alchemy by Ian Fohrman
Each evo store has an art gallery to showcase local artwork from our community or brand partners. We knew the first gallery in Denver needed to be special, so we were so lucky that Colorado-based outdoor and travel photographer Ian Fohrman was able to showcase some of his favorite photos from recent adventures. The commonalities between Ian’s values and evo’s are almost uncanny and made for a perfect fit to exhibit this element of our culture. Through his generosity, all prints were available for silent auction with proceeds benefiting SOS Outreach. We had a full house through the evening resulting in lots of bidding, browsing, and beer drinking (thanks, Odell Brewing)!
Faces of SOS Fundraiser
With music by Denver’s own DJ Chonz, food by Mile High Cajun, and more beer generously donated by Odell Brewing, the store was popping Thursday night! That alone would have made for a great evening, but there was more! People lined up to check in and purchase beer and raffle tickets to benefit SOS Outreach and enter to win tons of raffle and silent auction prizes that were generously donated by our sponsors Silverton Mountain, Strafe Outerwear, Jones Snowboards, Smith, Oakley, Burton Snowboards, Line Skis, Blackstrap, and Picture Organic. Smartwool was on site to help people mingle with their Perfect Pair program, where each attendee was given a sticker with a number and tasked with finding their pair through the night. Once found, both won a free pair of socks! Smartwool also donated 50 pairs of ski socks to SOS Outreach for their programs this winter.
We had the honor of hearing the story of Elizabeth, a participant of the SOS program who has experienced positive change thanks to building a relationship with her “Sherpa” Jamie. She’s made such a breakthrough that she was surprised with the presentation of the Spirit of the Circle award – and then went on to win not one but TWO raffle prizes!
Salomon Presents: Guilt Trip
We joined forces with Salomon for our first movie night in the new space. Their award-winning climate film, Guilt Trip, was shown on our projector as folks gathered in the gallery space and all through the store to view. We had multiple varieties of artisan popcorn from Kettle Head and refreshments from Odell Brewing to accompany the show. Chris Rubens and Kalen Thorien, the two main athletes in the film, were on site to engage with attendees and lead a Q&A session following the film. Everyone had the chance to grab some Salomon swag including neon t-shirts, headbands, and our custom evo x Salomon Freeski enamel camp mugs which were quite a hit! As with the previous events, all tips from the bar were donated to SOS Outreach – yet another way we were able to make this week all about our Giving Back program.
We’re proud to say that we are now open in full swing from both a retail and ski/snowboard/bike service perspective. If you’re in the area, please be sure to stop by, meet the team, and enjoy our new space with us. Thanks for the warm welcome, Denver!
