Meet Northwest Tech: Custom Outerwear Made In Seattle, WA
It started with the simple idea of designing a one-of-a-kind ski jacket. A jacket that was designed by the rider, for the rider. A jacket that had exactly what you desired – high-quality waterproofing, technical features, rad colors and an awesome fit.
Founded in 2012 by ski junkie and local Western Washington University student, Nick Marvik, NWT3K (northwest-tech) is paving a new road for customized outdoor apparel.
Headquartered in Seattle, WA, NWT3K manufactures and distributes customized waterproof jackets, ski pants and ski bibs to outdoor enthusiasts around the world. With facilities throughout Seattle, NWT3K keeps production USA-made and strives to contribute to the growth of Seattle’s apparel manufacturing industry.
How It All Started
As a lifelong skier, Marvik spent his winters chasing powder at Mt. Baker ski area. After buying an expensive North Face jacket, Marvik recounts the awkwardness of grabbing a chairlift only to discover the guy sitting next to him wearing the same exact one.
The excitement over his new North Face quickly fizzled. Identifying a gap in the market, and vowing to never encounter that moment again, Marvik started unraveling a big idea—and others around him quickly took notice.
Marvik’s hand-sewn jackets gained hype around campus, and orders began to stack up in a makeshift headquarters, a.k.a. his college basement.
At that time, he describes the brand as “just a fun personal project.” Fast forward almost five years later, and Northwest Tech is entering 2017 with a bang—by dipping into an unexplored frontier for the direct-to-consumer brand: brick & mortar retail.
Exclusive To evo Seattle
Historically Northwest Tech was only available through their direct-to-consumer website – which allows skiers and snowboarders to pick & choose their fabric colors, select from optional features like wrist gaiters or a powder skirt, and have their custom kit shipped to their front door within about 2.5 weeks time.
Now available within our Seattle store, the Northwest Tech customization kiosk allows store visitors to customize their one-of-a-kind outfit directly in-store through a 24″ touch screen monitor. Even cooler, store visitors can view all the raw materials that go into making their custom outfit – 20k waterproof fabric, waterproof zippers, and even the velcro.
“This allows the end customer to really get a first-hand feel for what goes into making their products. It also allows them to ensure they are getting the true colors they expect.” says Marvik
In addition, they have a full display of their custom jackets and snow bibs size Small – extra large that store visitors can try on to confirm they are getting the correct size before placing a custom order.
