‘Arts and Crafts’ Selected Works and Mural by Mike Kershnar Presented by Element
“ARTS AND CRAFTS” AND SOUTH WALL MURAL BY MIKE KERSHNAR AND ELEMENT
[Update: 08/19/2014] Stop by evo on Saturday, August 23, for Element’s No Board Left Behind event. Buy a Element Deck and we’ll take your old skateboard deck and re-cut it into a new shape, so that the board avoids the dump and continues to shred the street. The old board that you bring in is also equipped with trucks, new bolts and bearings, and green Element Wheels. LEARN MORE>
[Update] Mike’s gallery will be on display for the month of August, so come by and check it out! His mural on our South Wall will be on display until October.
Below check out our interview with Mike and some photos from the gallery.
By Chris Shalbot, Seattle, WA: Join us Friday night, August 1st, for the unveiling of Element Advocate Mike Kershnar‘s mural and gallery installation. Mike, a California based artist who works closely with Element Skateboards will be in Seattle all week working to get the mural and gallery ready for Friday night. Feel free to stop by and poke your head in to check on the progress. We’ll have some special decks that Mike designed as part of a collaboration with evo and Element as well.
We’ll have complimentary drinks and wristbands to skate All Together Skatepark so don’t forget your deck
Check out an Element Produced video from his time in Europe putting together 4 art shows in 4 cities in 4 weeks. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for our space.
Mike’s greatest visual influence other than animals in nature is the traditional ancient art forums from around the world. The simple visual truths seen in Ancient Egyptian, Mayan, Japanese, Pima, and most of all, the gorgeous Northern Formline style of the Pacific Northwest have always spoken to him the most through colors, shapes, symbols and patterns.
Like a visual incantation Mike seeks to reference that confluence of humanity and nature in my work, at the intersection of the ancient and the modern minds and the natural and urban landscapes. Mike grew up in Southern California where Ed Templeton was Picasso and Mark Gonzales was Salvador Dali and they continue to be among his favorite contemporary artists also including Barry McGee, Robert Crumb, Lance Mountain, Julien Couic, and Mike Giant.
