evoTrips Japan 2012: Update 3
There is still a bit of a buzz from this year’s evoTrip now that we ha ve been back here in the Northwest for a couple of weeks. To see 16 people from around the nation sign up for a trip with evo and the friendships that developed as a result has been really rewarding. Admittedly, when we opened this up through evo.com, we weren’t quite sure who all would join us. We quickly learned that the diversity in origins, age, snow-sliding devices, sex, backgrounds and personalities made for a really dynamic group with the passion for travel and the mountains working as a common thread that would stitch us all together.

evo Trips Japan 2012: Update 2
Hakuba is part of the Nagano prefecture of Japan which hosted the 1998 Winter Olympic Games. It’s home to so many different ski resorts.
The evo Trip crew spread out and hit Happo One, Hakuba 47, Cortina and Tsugaike-Kogan ski areas over the last couple days in the warm sunshine.
It was so warm some skied topless! Watch out for sun burns. We followed up the ski days with incredible food and drink in town. No one in our group had experienced better sushi and sake.
Our Japan experience went well beyond the mountains today; we visited the snow monkeys and looked for spiritual awakening. The snow monkeys were incredible, so human-like as they bathed in their hot springs. We followed up the monkey business with a stop at the Zenkoji Temple to rub incense smoke on our bodies for good health and find enlightenment in a pitch-black tunnel below Zenkoji’s main hall.
Trip member Chris Edwards says:
“Japan has been incredible so far. Blue bird pow days, snow monkeys, sushi, sake, new friends and lots of laughs. There isn’t much else I could ask for. I’m so glad I came on this trip.”
Sayonara,

evo Trips Goes To Japan: Day 1
evo Trip takes Japan by storm.
The crew of 19 landed at the Narita Airport outside of Tokyo and jumped on a stylish karaoke bus straight out of the 80s to head up to the mountains. We were greeted warmly at the Morino Lodge in Hakuba.
Day one, on snow, we rode powder at Cortina Resort. It turns out that the Japanese skiers don’t like to leave the groomed runs so we enjoyed the deep stuff in the trees by ourselves. Apparently, the locals refer to our type as, “powder junkies.”
At the end of day one we asked evo trip member Geneva to write about her first day in Japan and here’s what she said:
“evo’s Awesome Japan Adventure Trip Day One- Bluebird skies, crazy amounts of untouched pow in the trees and an awesome crew made for a super fab day of riding. After a quick soak in the onsen…the secret to multiple days of riding the crew enjoyed a traditional Japanese meal and the best part, Kenji, (former Seattlite) joined us to guarantee authentic fabulousness. Today was so rad tomorrow no doubt will be even better.”
Much love from Japan!
