Welcome back, now that you are bejeweled in a fancy new set of certified-safe skateboarding equipment it is time to discuss the ACTUAL skateboard and its effect on your life goals and passions.
A common mistake when beginning skateboarding is purchasing a skateboard deck that is in fact not the correct size for your intended style or body composition. Skating the wrong type or size of board can set you back on the learning curve a great deal and can make all aspects of skating just that much more difficult. Try learning to ollie on a board that’s wider and heavier than you are… then you’ll understand what we mean.
Sadly, some of us have to learn the hard way. Pay heed to this guide and you will only have your own inabilities and fear to blame for your skateboarding performance, the way it was meant to be.

It’s that time of year again, and the summer is on its glorious way. As Superman gained his strength from the Earth’s yellow sun, so too do we, emblazoned with new abilities, vigor, and renewed interests.
This happens every year. A few days of scattered sun and every boy and girl in the tri-state area begins to recall that they are die-hard skateboarders. To put it simply, shredding the gnar becomes a necessity, not a choice.
We dust off our antique skateboards, water-logged and pressure cracked to the core, and rush off in to the waning evening light to try and 360 flip that 4-stair in front of the apartment building. Haven’t been on a board in a year? Doesn’t matter! Haven’t procured safety gear or checked your set-up? So what!… Not surprisingly, the board breaks and we almost break ourselves, the harsh realization sets in that it isn’t as easy as it looks in those videos after all. Now, a new board is required and a few weeks to recuperate, if only we had prepared beforehand!
Skateboarding is tough business, but to make it a little easier on you, follow our three part skateboard guide BEFORE attempting to become the next Nyjah Huston this summer. For your own sake and the sake of others around you.

The 14th annual Bonfire Pipe to Pipe contest went down last Sunday at Mt. Hood in Oregon, where you can pretty much ski and snowboard all year round. Aside from a clever name, Pipe to Pipe literally takes riders between multiple pipes. The contest set up this year was two mini pipes side by side with a spine between them and all kinds of rails, tubes, and jibs set up along the sides. With plenty of different lines available, the creative possibilities were nearly endless and we were lucky enough to witness it first hand!

It can be hard to catch up with our team sometimes…everyone is off traveling different parts of the world, some don’t have cell phones, and some barely speak English. Luckily Facebook email is there, and pretty much all of us have one. Even evo has a Facebook, and you should check it out. (Shameless plug). So when we do get a chance to catch up with someone we have to make the most of it. If you have ever tried to conduct an interview before: job interview, magazine interview, interview with a vampire…you know that it is hard to think up good questions all at once, off the top of your head. Unless you are Larry King, you usually come up with better questions later on, after the fact. This interview spans over a few days of when we had time to think up some good questions and were able to make time in our busy schedules.

Go Skateboarding Day is June 21st, but that doesn’t mean that is the only day you can “go skateboarding”. Just because you can’t shred the park with the young kids, that doesn’t mean you can’t get on a skateboard. Cruise to the coffee shop, do a morning skatepark session when it’s empty, or just longboard down the bike trail- it’s all skateboarding. In Seattle, we take Go Skateboarding Day pretty seriously. This year everyone met up at the Seattle Sea Skate Skatepark for some BBQ, skating, and fun then headed down to the Marginal Way Skatepark afterwards on a party bus.

The Street League Skateboarding event graced Seattle with its presence this past weekend and the world was there to witness greatness. More importantly, we were there –and we hope you were too. A vast selection of the industry’s top professional skateboard-robots aptly illustrated how to decimate a freshly paved KeyArena in less than 48 hours. The combination of the world-class skateboarding, the signature instant Street League scoring format, and the boisterous crowd-support provided one of the best events in Seattle skating history. The energy was palpable.
